skimmer and phytoplankton

I set my skimmer up about three days ago and it looks like it's broken in. I fed the tank some DT the other night and this morning I noticed a small amount of water in my collection cup that was green tinted. Could my skimmer have taken the DT out of the water? Do you guys turn you skimmers off when you feed?

It's likely that the product in your collection cup was a good percentage of the phyto that you added. When I used to use DT's, I would turn off the skimmer for a few hours at feeding time.

Rob, thanks! That's what I figured, but wanted to make sure. The noise of the skimmer is bothering my husband, so I'll probably run it opposite of my lighting schedule. That way, he won't have to listen to it while he's watching TV.
