skimmer and sump help

I have a Aqua Clear Aquatics sump and Skimmer. The problem is the skimmers outlet is about 5 inches above the water level and puts tons of micro bubbles in the water next to the return pump. I have a sponge that the water pours through first before it hits the water. I think it is the skimmer but it has no adjustments any ideas?

Can you extend the outlet to the water surface by using pvc? Also moving the outlet away from the intake of the pump would let the air seperate out a bit more. If you have the room then adding a baffel or two would do quite a bit.

I had a very similar problem when I decided to mount a Bak-PakII in my sump. First I had the water falling out of the skimmer an inch or so into a tall/wide drinking glass. Most of the bubbles popped before they made their way with the water over the lip of the glass into the sump.
That worked sorta - but I eventually did what Q suggested above, and fab'd up some PVC fittings and extended the outlet down below the surface.
Good luck - bubbles suck <img src="graemlins//eek.gif" border="0" alt="[eek]" />
