I've got a cpr bac pac 2r on my 55 ......its been going for about 3-4 months now.....in the return chamber there is at least one slug(small-about 1/4 inch) and what appears to be a large number of copepods/amphipods....plus just plain old scum......should I remove the skimmer and clean it up or just let it be......it does a gr8 job......very seldom produces bubbles and empty about 1/2 cup of dry skimmer stuff twice a week..........

Im sorry I can't help with your question, but I am in search of a skimmer and have looked at that skimmer. It sounds as though you would recomment it. My trouble is if it will fit with the clearence on my canopy. How high is it from the top edge of the tank? And does it hug close to the back or rest out a couple of inches?
I hate to answer topics with a question, but I would appreciate your help. :D

Not a problem....its about 6" above the tank and about 4" behind the tank........ :)and in my opinion does a gr8 job with few problems

Hey thanks. Is that the width of the unit itself, or how much space is between the tank and the unit? I need one that sits back off the tank some or I will have to cut a chunk out of my canopy.
Thanks

I have a Bak Pak and like it alot, here are the dimensions from the website
7.5" wide, 3" deep, 17.5" height
There is some (a little) adjustability to how close it can sit against the back of the tank, but it depends on the type of tank. I would say you have about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch to play with.
There are some critters in the bottom of mine and until The algae build up gets to bad on the sides I don't plan on Cleaning it. I do check and clean the input output tubes about once a month tho.

Keep the skimmer clean to keep it effecient, just empty the little critters back into the tank first. If necessary pour them into a net then seperate them with some tweezers to prevent the slime and such from going into the tank. I like to preserve all life when possible.

I agree with BurnNSpy keep it clean to maximize the efficiency of it. I don't have a bak pak but I clean my skimmer about every three weeks to a month.
