So my asm g3 is driving me nuts..... It has the gate valve mod on it... I close it the smallest bit of a turn and it skim out a gallon of saltwater. I open it a tiny tiny bit and it sits there all day and does nothing. The after doing nothing all night and not touching it. It goes crazy and pumps a gallon of saltwater again. With no change in setting .WTF any ideas......

Try putting it on a stand of some sort and lift it out of the water to about 7 to 8 inches of water only.

The pump should be submerged. The wohle thing should be in 6 to 8 inches of water. If it were already lifted as high as that you should have just said so, and we could look at something else to try. I hope you didn't burn up your pump.

The pump came out of the water after I moved it up... Guess I better go and get some pipe and plumb it different as far as the pump. Now I ran it with the water right bellow the ring last night and had foam coming up the neck but no skimmate this morning ...... Do I need to close the valve a touch

If you pump is underwater...great. Don't touch it. It may take a bit for the foam to finally reach the top of the cone and overflow as skim but eventually the foam will get there. If you putz with it...it will skim wet and have a bunch of green to brown water in the cup and you don't want that. The foam will build and overflow.

I am suprised you can't get fine control with that gate valve - sometimes some gate valve have a little play in them before the actually adjust the flow. I think if you make real small adjustments you should be alright. Just be patient and make small adjustments at one time. And watch it don't walk away from a just adjusted skimmer. Good luck

Well I think your right... really small turns not even a degree of a turn. It is skimming really dry right now like thick pea soup. Do you think it is possible my skimmer is to big for my tank. I have been told that a asm g3 will not continuously skim in a 75 gallon tank that it will start and stop.
