I just got a skimmer but nothing is comming up in the collection cup...
Is it not turned up high enough?
If I turn it up any higher, to many micro bubbles flood the tank. I already fixed that prob thanks to a thread I posted earlier and some advice I got from a few people, but now I'm having problems with skimming anything at all...
My tank is still cycling and the skimmer is new so do you think that might be why there's nothing in the tank to skim???

There is probably nothing to skim yet.
What brand are you using?

Thank you for telling me. I didn't know if I should run it or not.
and for the question above, it's a Visi Jet skimmer.

Just out of curiosity, is there a huge difference if you run ur protein skimmer while your cycling as opposed to not running it? Just curious cuz alot of people have told me to run it. So i have been running it for about 2 weeks.

All the tanks I have cycled I always ran my skimmer. It probly doesnt matter if you run it or not while cycling. I figure by running it Iam getting a jump start on my water quality. Some people will say it slows the cycling period down by running the skimmer. If it does its not noticeable IMO.

It helps remove organic waste from the water like LR die off, fish poo, leftover food stuff like that. Its a good addition to a SWA.

How many gallons per hour should a skimmer be set to if it's in a 37 gal tank?
I'm also using a bio wheal which should help further circulate the water...

I have an Aquaclear 30 powerhead (175gph) hooked to my HOB skimmer for a 46 gallon. So im turning my tank about 4 times an hour. Works great! I cleaned the collection cup 2 days ago and i already gotta clean it again. Lot of die off during my cycle. Im cycling with 70lbs of LR.

I ran my skimmer through the cycle. Just becuase I wasnt starting out with a top of the line skimmer. I started out with a jebo "same thing as visa-jet" They take a week or so to break in so by the time there doing there job your tank will have cycled.
