Skimmer Poll

I am upgrading my fowlr tank to a 125. Eventually maybe adding some coral. I plan on using either a 30 or 55 gal sump and wanted to use a skimmer in that sump--
The sky is not the limit on cost but I will do what is right by my tank..
What would you recommend??

bermuda BPS-3C Is what I would recommend if you want a skimmer that is reliable and easy to maintain. The msx 160 is a good skimmer, but people are having to replace te mesh right away on some and you would have to replace it about every year anyways. The Etss sump budy 40 is a great skimmer too.

This skimmer canbe uses in sump or plumbed external.

I have now seen both the bermuda and msx. I just got my bermuda today. Actually they have a similar design. The biggest difference is how they make the bubbles. The biggest issue with the MSX is that the mesh will have to be replaced over time. Its a little more hands on than the bermuda imo. Both are great skimmers. Not just good but great. I would still buy a bermuda. both cost about the same. So good luck. you wont go wrong with either one. This is my opinion.

The msx pulls about twice the air that the bermuda does. also the new flatback mesh only needs replaced around every two years. The MSX runs at about 1/2 to 1/3 the wattage of the bermuda, which will cost less in electric and return less heat to the tank.

The bermuda 3c I have is pulling 50 scfh of air. Same as the msx. you are correct that the bermuda uses a larger pump.mine is being plumbed external. there is really no heat transfer. There are positives to both. Thats all I am saying. I know you are a big msx and octo fan. I have owned two octo's and they were good as well. Not as good as the sump buddy 40 by etss ( AE tech ). Obviously we have mixed reviews and I thing that either one would be a good choice. I did go bermuda. Final thought. The Bermuda is made in the good ol USA. The MSX is made in manitoba canada. I tried to call the customer service on the msx and ask some questions about setup and stuff. The person I talked to wasnt the most friendly to say the least. The lady from bermuda on the other hand made sure that she answered everything I had to ask. Just seemed friendly polite and very knowledgable about the product. again this is my opinion. And sometimes we just have to agree to dissagree.

Oh and the MSX pulls 40 watts of power. I am using the quiet one 3000 on the bermuda 780gph and it pulls 40 watts as well. So even if I put in the sump still be same amount of heat. same amout of electricity too.

After using my asm g4x with gate valve and recirc mod for a couple of years I decided to purchase a bubble king supermarine 200.....WOW what a difference. The BK pulled out more skim in the first day than my asm did in a week (that was even before the skimmer was broken in)
I had these skimmers on a 210g

I would agree that the bubble king is probably the best but is also very expensive. I wont deny that they are top of the line though. good luck. The ASM skimmers are good skimmers. I just think for the money some of the others use a little newer technology and would be more effective.
