We are having major problems with our skimmer. We think that maybe this skimmer is a cheap version and we are wanting to get one that is going to work correctly and last. What brands would you recommend? I want an in the sump skimmer.
Thanks!

The tank is a 75 gallon, roughly 300 at the most. Just need something that will work. The one we have now turns all the waste into a liquid and its not a dark color. Its almost clear, the skimmer took out over 5 gallons the other day within 10 mins, so I know its messed up. Its been doing this no matter what the air value is set on.

are you using stress coat in your water. That will make a skimmer do that. Also how long has the skimmer been setup on the tank they will do that at first intill they break in. What kind of skimmer is it

How about a Tunze 9010. Best customer service on Earth and they make a pretty good skimmer as well.

Really light liquid sounds like it could be an adjustment issue
. Maybe something happened and it got bumped. What kind of skimmer are you looking for HOB or in sump? That might make a difference on what ones you are looking at as well. I have an MSX 160 and LOVE it!!

I bought the vertex one yesterday with a new sump as well. Got a pretty good deal on it. Right now im pleased with it, but the pump is kinda loud. Is there a way I can tune the pump nose down?

Agree
Skimmer is either sitting to low OR water level problem. I know they can be touchy from time to time.

Try filter pads underneath or around it
