skimmer probs

ok this is probably a newb problem but I need to know the answer... I bought a skimmer a berlin airlift 60 for a 20 gallon tank because im putting anemone's in it... it was working fine but it was BARELY overflowing out of the air hole in the top. I got tired of fooling with it (mainly because my gf wouldnt leave me alone about it BARELY overflowing... WOMEN!) anyways i put a diff airpump on and all of a sudden it didnt work... the foam wasnt going ANYWHERE and i couldnt figure out why... even putting on the old airpump didnt help... so i bought a new skimmer and the same problem exists... the foam just wont build to where it reaches the collection cup... is it possible that the berlin airlift 60 already cleaned out most of the proteins and now doesnt have enough bacteria to create enough foam? I'm just curious because if its just that a skimmer wont work for me... then i gotta get rid of hte new pearl long tentacle anemone i just bought... so i made a begginers mistake and now im asking a begginers question... anyhelp would be much appreciated
Thanks,
James

How long are you waiting for the skimmer cup to fill up? The foam usually builds up over a period of time when it eventually goes into the cup. It is not an immidiate process.

It make take a while for the skimmer to go through a "Break In" period. Give it a chance to get going. I would say wait a few days and then see if you have any goodies in the collection cup. Also if it has a way to lower or raise the collection cup you may have to play around with that a little bit.
