Skimmer Question

My new 300 gl tank came with a Berlin XL Turbo skimmer. My question is, will it work if sitting at an angle? It is too tall to fit under my stand. If it won't work, is there another skimmer that is smaller that will work as well? Or 2 skimmers that I can run that would equal the on Berlin XL? I know nothing about skimmers, so those questions might sound stupid.

Well the tank also came with an Iwaki 1500gph pump to run it, so what skimmer would you guys suggest I sell mine and purchase? Obviously I need it not so tall and support a 300 gal tank and be able to use a 1500gph pump.

Reef Concepts has an awesome skimmer that can set outside of your sump. My bud at the lfs has one on a 700, that takes out the most nasty stuff you can imagine. Frank is the owner, in NC, yep in the good ol U.S.A. and he will help you with your size problem and can recommend the best set up for you. Check out the site and emal him....He will return your mail, trust me on that............

If you go under support you will get Frank's email..
Good luck, I wish I had 300 gallons to play with...............
He will take care of you..:D

Good god!!! Those reef concepts skimmers are $600. I don't have that much to spend on a skimmer after just buying a 300 gallon.

I measured and the stand has 27 inches of clearance from top to bottom. So help me out on a good non-$600 skimmer that will fit in there. Obviously I would like room to be able to remove the skim cup so a 27 inch skimmer on the nose wouldn't work. i also need to sell my Berlin XL, how much can I get for that?

No, my Iwaki is not my return pump, I have a Little Giant for that. And the skimmer that golfish is talking about is a knock-off of the ER skimmer, so I would assume that it wouldn't be manditory that it use that pump.

What kind of rude reply is that??? "Please do your research"?? That is what I thought I was doing here, trying to learn from more knowledgeble people than myself. I thought that was the idea of this BBS? I guess it's not, I guess it is a big **** contest to come in here and insult people who need help, and show off how much smarter they are when it comes to Saltwater fish. I have seen you in numerous posts battling it out with other users, does this make you feel good about yourself? I was under the wrong idea obviously, that this board was here to simply help people share thoughts about different ideas and try to help each other. I won't ask for help anymore, don't worry. And when many innocent fish die, let it rest on your shoulders, that the reason is, because you have intimidated people to no longer ask questions.

Sal T, you may want to seriously think about building your own skimmer for that tank. There are some plans out there that use a beckett foamer nozzle to create an incredible amount of foam. Then you can design the skimmer around your existing pump. That Iwaki should really rock on a DIY HSA skimmer. Do a search for "HSA skimmer DIY" you'll find lots of info. Another type would be a downdraft skimmer, these can be made much shorter and are truly amazing. On a smaller tank it makes more sense to just buy one, but on a tank that size you can save enough money to justify building you own. Here's a link to a very promising design for a downdraft do it yourself project: http://www.aqualink.com/marine/downdraft.html
