ok, so call it cutting a corner, but i have a 44gal corner setup going thru cycle. the only filtration i planned on using is a hang-on, carbon catridge deal filter. one thats suited 4 freshies. if i invest in a skimmer, will it be the only thing i need to maintain good parameters n healthy fish??? besides LR of course. in addition, whats a good hang-on skimmer 4 my setup? do they require a pump? what makes the skimmer work? im trying 2 avoid any sump setup as well.
any suggestions would b great!

There are a few on the market but be carefull what you buy because this is one area were you need to spend the money. A red sea prizm is decent skimmer they are about 200 bucks.

I wouldn't spend 10 cents on a prizm. I made that mistake once.
Trick me once shame on you. Trick me twice shame on me.

I agree prizm skimmers are awful.I purchased one a year ago has gave me nothing but problems now a week ago the seem came apart and it started leaking had to seal it with super glue! And if thats not enough now the motor or pump whatever you want to call it is going out to. nothing but junk! Oh by the way if you decide to purchase one you can get one online at wal-mart . com for 99.00 what does that tell you?.
