I need to get a skimmer for my 55 tank and was wondering what kind. Does anyone have any experience with Sea Clone Skimmers? I dont want to pay more the $100 for one and do not want a Prizm. If anyone has any ideas about where to get one online send them to redcorsair14@aol.com. Thanks

Spend the $, it is one of the most important parts to your tank. I have a TURBO 1000 (about $100). It is good except for the junky, worthless, noisy, undependable RIO pump that came with it. ALL RIOS ARE JUNK!!!!

I have had great success with a CPR Bak Pak 2 powered by a Maxi-Jet 900. It removes all the crap from my 30 gallon reef efficiently and quietly, and it also has a place for my macros...my nitrates are nada.
Others have had great success with the AquaC Remora Pro.
IMHO, these HOB skimmers are worth the money. Not sure about others, but these 2 are good buys.

Agreed. They are noisy, unreliable, and need to be serviced more than a 20 year old Ford that hasn't had an oil change the last 10,000 miles. :D

I already have a bak pak 2r on my 65 tank. It works great except I have to adjust it every so often and it is noisy. And yes RIOs suck I have already changed out my Rio with a maxi jet. Whats this Turbo Skimmer? i might go with another Bak PAk.

im using a SeaClone 100 on my tank. I have it sumped. It requires a bit of adjustment every now and then and some cleaning. Been running it for about 5 months. No problems what so ever. Got it for $60 plus shipping = $72, included a maxijet 1200 pump. Only thing, its a bit noisy. OF course, if you want a better skimmer, its gonna cost you more than $100.
Hmm, maybe i just got lucky, but my rio runs absolutely quiet and still going strong. Only noise i get is from my skimmer.

bigmac does have a valid point...there is no way a hang on type skimmer can perform as well as any of a number of in sump types. But...if you want a hang-on for a 55 or less then I'd suggest the CPR BacPac2r...it is a decent skimmer.
Just to futher explain ...my CPR was replaced by a EuroReef CS6-2 when I developed a sump and there absolutely is no comparision!! More of an investment but it was well worth it and now I wish I had just done it right the first time.

I know my post seem a little out of wack but for the most part there's a little experience that comes along with it. I just hate to see people waste their hard earned credit card money on something their going to have to replace.
Hey, what the hec is wrong with this BB
