Skimmer suggestions

I have a sump for my 120g- dimensions are 3' x 1' x 18". L x W x H.
My sump has a divider in the middle and has 3 sections- 1st is a tiny section where the water enters the sump 2nd is the largest area- my refugium ( want skimmer here), 3 return area. The opening is 8" x 9" around and it has 2 openings. What is a good skimmer for this? I was thinking marineland advanced 300 series. Anyone have this skimmer? Thanks in advance.

Super Reef Octopus XP-1000 SSS Space Saver Protein Skimmer

/p>
Reef Octopus Super XP 1000SSS Protein Skimmer is a Brand New design in our ever popular Reef Octopus line of protein skimmers.Powered by Bubble Blaster pump!
CoralVue / Reef Octopus is proud to introduce the Super Reef Octopus[sup]® product line. With the most innovative skimmer and calcium reactor designs on the market there is no reason to look any further. They use the super efficient Bubble Blaster/Water Blaster pumps which include a 3 year warranty. The SRO line offers 3 different skimmer designs to meet almost any requirement or space limitations one may have.
The SSS stands for Super Sump Saver. This model incorporates all the same benefits of the XP design but has the pump built into the bottom of the skimmer which allows for a much smaller footprint inside the sump. The XP cone design puts very little back pressure on the pump because there is little resistance from the base of the skimmer all the way up to the collection cup. Less resistance means more skimming ability for the pump to work at its maximum output. When space is limited look to the SRO/XP SSS models.

Skimmer runs best in steady sump levels of 8"-9.5"
The Diablo 160 XS skimmer is powered by the high performance Italian Sicce PSK-600 pinwheel pump. The skimmer comes equipped with a gate valve output to allow for precision control. The Sicce PSK600 pump has an improved star wheel impeller. The new PSK-600 are much more advanced than the previous PSK 2500 pump. Now with a digital circuit to control start up direction and speed, ultra low noise and huge air draw numbers, this pump is ready to perform with no modifications needed. The skimmers pump produces on average 23scfh of air pull using the provided pinwheel impeller. (Air results will vary depending on aquarium setup) Each Sicce pump draws less than 30watts of electricity. The collection cup has a quick release neck for easy removal for cleaning. It requires 1/2 inch of clearance to remove the cup. The Diablo XS skimmer uses metric plumbing parts.

You are awesome for the help! My tanks water volume is 160 gallons, so I think i need one bigger. What's the next size up for the super saver?

The super saver doesn't mean it's smaller; it just is designed a little different than the standard skimmers so they can fit into smaller sumps.....How heavy is the tank actually stocked and a thing to keep in mind is that we all like to lean to the heavy side of stocking at times.....

Sorry for the poor paste and post on my part.......You can get all the specs and details from ReefSpecialty dot com........but here's a peak at the XP2000sss. Still the dimensions of the skimmer are bigger than you can fit, but gives you an idea....

I have 7 fish atm( 5 chromis and 2 clowns. I plan on 2 dragonwts, 3-4 anthias, matted filefish, reef safe wrasse, royal gramma, goby, algae blenny. Also, I want a mixed reef tank...is this overstocked? Or can I go with the skimmer up to 160 gallons?

If you check out Corey's thread he's trying out another good skimmer line.....Can't recall specifics way to tired today, but another good option. Another skimmer you might look at is the Reef Octopus Diablo as well. Keep in mind that going externally you drive the price up quite a bit, and you'll also need a feed pump to feed the skimmer......Some will tell you that you can gravity feed an external skimmer, but if you talk to some reliable sources; they will inform you that gravity feeding a skimmer has it's draw backs. Although saving you the use of a feed pump, gravity feeding can also be very inconsistent will flow rate to the skimmer as well as other things....
I'd advise you to give Mike a call at ReefSpecialty if you choose that route for a skimmer and get his advice on correct sizing for your system......

Don't have Anthias yet...plan on getting them. do you know about the marineland advanced 300 protein skimmer? I am looking into this one. Any thoughts in this one?

Haven't looked into the Marineland skimmers.....I'm very finicky/picky with equipment, and IMHO marieland should stick with what got them in business and leave skimmers alone......Just my .02

Marineland brand is not typically regarded as a quality product. But as with anything, the best skimmer would be one that fits your budget. I just purchased a Skimz SK201 for my 120g with 65g sump. Haven't had a chance to put it to use yet but I'm hopeful that it will more than suit my needs just fine. The SK 181 would probably have been plenty.
Reef Octo xp2000, or the Diablo would probably be good ones as well. The Diablo's don't utilize the bubble blaster pumps though and they're pretty new, but they're supposed to be a descent skimmer for the price, or at least that's the claim.

Haven't seen anyone here that is using them. Perhaps someone has tried the marineland brand skimmer and will chime in. Google works wonders, search it out, read the threads of those who are using them and see what they say. That's typically what I do before I make any purchase. I don't go by the reviews found on websites that are selling the products because a lot of the time those can be bogus.
