What would you pick for a 55 gal tank???
AquaC Urchin Skimmer (in sump)- $158.95 (includes Rio800)
Red Sea Prizm Protein Skimmer (think it's a hang on but i would hang it onto my sump) - $75.90
Aqua Medic Turboflotor T1000 (w/Rio2100) - $152.10
CPR Wet / Dry Filter CY192 (Cyclone Bio-Filter + Skimmer) - $269.00
i think that the cpr wet/dry filter + skimmer in one would be really good. thoughts?

I just picked up a Prizm Deluxe($129) for my 3 week old tank and it seems to working great. It's produces all kinds of nasty smelling dirty looking stuff already.

i go with aqua c urchin. i personally have a aqua c remora and it works great. what u might want to do is change that rio 800 to something like maxijet 1200. its a lot quieter and a lot stronger. the aqua c skimmer are very quiet in my opinion and it is very efficient.

I hate to disagree with leb, but I think the skimmer is the best part of my filtration. It amazes me how much gunk it pulls out compared to my Fluval Canister filter.
DSB, Lots Of Rock, and a good skimmer is way better then excessive water changes in my opionion. And of course that is just my opionion...Brian

i do not have any experience with any of those skimmers, but i like the urchin myself. small footprint of the unit itself, plus its based on the remora which i've heard nothing but good things.

I run the aqua c remora with a 1200 maxi jet and am very happy with it.

hmmmm....i see everyone's opinion on them...i think i would just feel better, and have better water quality if i had a skimmer running. as far as it taking additives out of the water (concerning corals), i'm not really worried since i'll be doing a FOWLR tank. aqua c is sold also (for an extra 5 bucks) with a maxi1200. that sounds like a good route to take.
