i've got a fish only at the moment using my skimmer as a dry skim is this best for fish only? but it is turning into a reef as of middle of oct starting with a few hammers & mushrooms..
so what do i do for best skimming all round? is wet best or dry? for both reef and fish only?

There really is no difference between wet and dry skimming you are still removing basically the same amount of waste the main difference is how much water you are removing along with the waste. I usually try to shoot for somewhere in between, if you skim too dry most of the waste will collect on the riser tube and decrease the efficiency of your skimmer and if you skim too wet you end up removing more saltwater than waste.

Adjust your collection cup so that you are getting the darkest skimate you can. If you can't see through it then it is doing its job. IMO
