skimmer vs u.v.

:help: I have a 150 fish only tank with just a couple small fish. Before I go any
farther, would it be better to buy a protien skimmer or u.v. sterilizer first. Also what
brand would you suggest ? ( i'm running two fluval filter )

go with a protein skimmer first. Id say either an aquac, cpr bakpak, or a coralife super skimmer.

I vote Skimmer. Make a good one. I like Aqua C.

Well each does different things. The skimmer's job is to remove excess nutrients in the tank. In essasance to keep your nitrates down and prevent nuicence algea and cyno from growing in the tank.
The UV is to prevent an outbreak of ick and other nuicense parasites. I've yet to see a UV run on any system. I see skimmers on nearly every system.

Yeah skimmers and UV's serve different purposes and would have to say is a skimmer is more a must than a UV regardless of tank style....For a tank that size I would look at a needlewheel skimmer over a Coralife skimmer anyday.....You want a good quality skimmer and you'd be looking at the Euro, ASM, GEO or a Deltec......The first and last skimmers I mentioned are rather pricey, but can't go wrong with any of the skimmers I listed....ASM is probably more price reasonable and will give you the same results as the EuroReef without the hefty price tag.......
