Skimmer went flat

I left my skimmer off for a week or so to treat with melafix. I started it back up and I won't foam, water seems flat. It is obvious that there is plenty to be skimmed out, visually there is a greasy film that coats the top of the water?

I think you should do a water change. I read most things you treat you tank with will greatly effect the way your skimmer works....

If you left the water in the skimmer for one week, most likely it has fouled. Clean the skimmer out thoroughly with very hot water. Most skimmers should be working overtime (majorly foaming) when a medicine has been used in the tank. Try that first, then you may have to tweek it a little. All else fails, water changes.

add vinegar to the water to help clean it i read somewhere that it does an awesome job and doesn't hurt anything

I would really like to see that article, vinegar is an acid, surely you mean to tell him to use it on the skimmer, not the tank?
