Skimmer

I wanted to know if a protein skimmer is good for a reef tank or fish only, or a tank like mine, I have some coral, anenomy, and fish and crabs, shrimps. I was wondering if I can put one, is it good, i heard they are not good because they can take some protein out or stuff that the corals need, can someone tell me if they are good.

IMO, no marine tank should be without the best one you can afford.

i think it also takes out alot of impurities and excrament not sure but when mine went down wow did I notice the diference in the water lab values maby not corelated but it was the only thing that changed

Research the type of skimmer before you buy one. Right off the bat I would tell you to stay away from Prizm and skilters. They aren't worth the money you pay for them.

Seaclone 100 Skimmer with Pump
Is this a good one for my 55 gallon tank?

Do you have a sump? I would recommend the Euroreef ES5-2 for a 55 gallon tank. VERY efficient and well worth the money.
I've never used a Seaclone but have heard mixed reviews of them.

If you do a search on this site, you will find lots of info about sumps including how others have made and installed theirs.
There's a Marine website out there that's a real Depot for selling aquarium things...do a google search, reread this post, and you will find at least 1 good site that sells Euroreef. Or you can email me at mrs_obi_wan@hotmail.com and I will send the website url to you. :yes:

I would reccomend not getting that skimmer. Anyone will tell you that as soon as you try to save money on a skimmer, youve wasted money. Euro Reef's seem to be everyone's favorite if you have the space and money for one.

make sure you dont have soap residue or anything on your hands or arms when working in your tank because the surfactants in them will affect the efficiency of your skimmer. Dont adjust it for a couple hours after feeding or putting your hands in it because both effect the foaming.

IMO, its the single most important piece of equipment.....but here's the problem. Most people wasted money on a cheap inexpensive skimmer. If you can't afford a good skimmer, I'd hold off until you can.

AquaC Remora/Urchins are also choice skimmers as well so I hear. Not nearly as expensive as EuroReefs but a good bang for the buck.

O.K is it good or better the ETSS EVO 500? That's the expensive one I found here in saltwaterfish.com I can afford that. If its better let me know if its the same or worst let me know, I don't want to know which one is cheaper, I want to know which one is better, and the ones you guys are telling me I can't find them.
