A skimmer is sonething that sits in your sump, wet /dry or hangs on the back of your tank. It skims all of the un-necessary wastes from your water by using air. Water is sucked in to the skimmer pump , and combined with airbubbles, all the bad elements in the water stick to the bubbles and are sent to the drain cup. This helps keep your water healthy. Depending on the size of your tank will depend on the size of skimmer. Sea life is a good brand. They go for about 120 dollars.

If you ask me, a skimmer is probably one of the most essential pieces of equipment for the marine tank.
