Can you skim to much? Put my new skimmer in my sump and for 3 days working like a champ! but now it not skiming as well. I bought it from a guy who was selling off his store. Got it for a steal at 100$ he showed me a tag for 400$ The ? is can I skim tomuch? It's not doing as much as it was doing. Can a skimer be too big? And if it is what can I do about it. He had about 600 gal worth of water and I have about 70gal. is this too much and if it is. Is there anything I can do about it? :notsure:

Provided the turnover rate in your display tank isn't over 20-25x, then I don't see any danger to using a skimmer rated for a volume higher than your tank.

IMO you cant overskim. you may remove some benificial stuff like when you use additaves,, but frequent water changes negates this IMO I have a skimmer rated for 150 g on a 45g. the reason its not skimming so well after several days is the dissolved protien level has dropped to where there is less to be removed so you get less waste. (unless its mechanichal like no bubbles) but if your getting less waste thats a good sign, you could always turn it up a little and skimm your tank even barer of protiens.
