can anyone advise on what type of skimmer you would
recomend for a 65gal and what brand and type skimmers
i should stay away from. thanks

It really depends on your setup. Do you want hang-on or in-sump skimmer? Are you going to upgrade your tank to a bigger one somewhen?
Do a search on "skimmer". You will find a lot of discussions about different skimmers. Some of the latest threads were active untill yesterday or so.
