what do you guys think the best buy for the money is?

It depends on what size tank you have and what you have in it. A lot of people on this board bash it, but I have a seaclone skimmer for my 55 gal reef and love it. It pulls a lot of scum out of my tank.

Would help to know the size of your tank but i know Aqua-c is really good if you have a sump the EV- series are really good i run a EV-90 and had a seaclone (junked it) it skimmed to but was way to much trouble. I like the downdraft air no adjusting air flows only water hight. goodluck. Missy

it comes down to how much you have to spend!
but the best skimmer out there is the ets series downdraft hands down!!

It took about two weeks of adjusting it constantly, and a lot of encouragement from Jimi & a couple other people here at the BB, but my berlin is working great. It pulls all kinds of nasty stuff out. I would buy another, but it takes a LOT of patience at first(just like everything else in this hobby). Just stay away from Red Sea brand pumps, they're noisy . HTH
