skimmers?

j&j,s tank

We are new to this and are ready to invest in a protien skimmer now. We have a 75 gallon tank and was thinking about the Seaclone 100 or the 150. Is this a good choice or would anyone recommend another brand? Thanks for any help.

i too, am rather new to this stuff, so i'm probably the last person that should be giving advice... but....a friend let me borrow his seaclone 150 while i went shopping for a skimmer...
it was essentially worthless. in a curing tank, i got nearly no gunk in the collection cup. occasionally, there'd be an air burp, and it would push clear water up into the cup, but that's about it.
seems like there's a lot of folks that have done mods to the unit, and gotten some good out of it, but it doesn't seem to be a skimmer that ever reviews very well.
not exactly sure what i would recommend, tho as...after two weeks of research and carefully weighing the pros and cons from every angle i could on skimmers....i just gave up, and ordered a no-name home made setup off of ----. something about paying $400 for a couple of PVC tubes just wasn't making sense to me, and...nothing else in a sane price range seemed like it was any better suited to be a skimmer than it was to be a bong. i got lucky, (this thing pulls green muck out of the tank) but i'm not sure it's advice i'd want to tell anybody else to follow.

Check out the mid sized Coralife Super SKimer for the 75 gal tank.....lots of bang for the buck, well made and very efficient as well as quiet.

AquaC Remora or if you want to save a few extra $$, A CPR bakpak.
The Seaclones are worthless skimmers.

I have a ASM G-4x and a seaclone 100. The seaclone 100 was in a box not being used until I setup my new 120 up a couple months ago and that's what 's on it right now until I move my 75 gal over next to the 120 then the ASM will be used for both.
I wasn't impressed with the seaclone, but there is a huge price difference between these two as well. I run the ASM dry and the seaclone really has a mind of it's own, it's configured for the insump and I added a long extension to it between the pump and chamber. It does appear to work some what.
Here are the pictures from this morning:
