Okay so i just bought a "seaclown" i mean seaclone and then found out it sucks, so i cleaned it up and returned it, what is a
decent skimmer, price is no matter but space is, if its a hang on i only have about 5-7 inches of clearance i would prefer a hang on only because its more convienent for me, oh and i have a 40G and maybe going to a 75 if things go well.

My only experience is with the larger AquaC skimmers but I have read good reviews on the Remora series and I am very happy with my EV-180. They have three different sizes to choose from.

Im running a seaclone on a 45g and its doing fine, It is rated for a 100g, not sure if that makes a difference. There are Tons of good skimmers out there they are just insanely expensive. Also you might what to check out the DIY section. I made a skimmer for my 29g out of an over the back bio wheel filter. I got those instructions somewhere out there in internet land. It works great. Foamy dark and stinky.

I just got a Remora skimmer and it's starting to produce. Got it to upgrade from my Seaclone. I know a lot of people knock the Seaclone, but I have to say that it has worked well for me over the past 3-4 months producing a steady amount of very dark concentrated gunk. It does have maintenance issues with keeping the foam powerhead filter clean, but that's not an issue anymore for me as my bioload and algea has gone down (gave the puffer away) in my 55 gal reef to be and the cheato has really taken off and is growing like crazy.
The production on my Seaclone has gone down as the Remora has come online and I will be running the two of them together for awhile to compare production. Right now, the Remora is ahead and I am still tuning the collection cup height to concentrate the skimmate more. For the money, the Seaclone is productive and efficient in smaller tanks IMHO.

The debate goes on! I too started with Seaclones and they were a constant battle to keep tuned for skimmate production that wasn't watery. Constantly clogging with salt in airline tubing, dripping from U-tube connections, and occasionally overflowing. Have tried "Skilters" on smaller tanks - don't bother with them either. Have friends with Red Sea varieties and they are merely OK. The Corallife Needle Wheel Super Skimmers (125 & 225) are great - the smaller version is really prone to overflowing and needs a larger collection cup.
The rediculously exspensice skimmers out there are that way for a reason - They are worth it.
