OMG I have no clue what happened....Skinny died

Last night before I went to bed I mentioned to my husband that she looked like she was hitched wierd...Like the tip of her tail wasn't tight....I looked at her best I can (she's tiny) and didn't see anything...Knowing I was off today, I thought I would give her a good looking over.....WELLLLL
When I got up this morning she was laying on her gorg, and her tail was completely white....from tip to body, and she was dead WTF

IDK...IDK IDK....

Sorry Lois, gonna tag along here because I know the "Seahorse people" are gonna come in and hopefully come out with some ideas. Does it look like Biguns tail? Didn't you send something out from Bigun for analysis and if so did you get anything back yet that might lead to what happened to skinny?

I have no clue Henry....The tail was completely white...no abrasions..no marks...She has been fine too....I even have a video of her from a couple of days ago swimming around

BIGUN's tests came back inconclusive...the wound was too "sterile" LOL...I guess I treated it too good

Wow...I'm so sorry Meowzer. This was so unexpected. Hopefully someone can figure out what happened with her.

Thanks guys....
I am wondering if I should treat my tank with anything...My water parameters are all good, fish seem great....If it is something like Vibrio...can fish get it????

Sorry to hear this. Sometimes there is just no telling what happened. Maybe Ann will chime in.

Sorry to hear you lost her. :( She really was tiny/stunted for her age, so perhaps there were underlying health/organ problems that were not apparent.
Anytime there is a "white tail issue", even if it's just the very teeny, tiny tip of the tail.... more likely than not it's a vibrio infection. Usually high temps or unexpected temperature spikes are the triggering factor.
I know in previous threads you mention the main tanks temp is/was 75 degrees. Honestly, a tank with a known pathogen issue should be kept lower than that IMO. Hopefully the tank is/was no longer kept at that temp.
I wasn't aware, based on your other threads, that this tank also housed wild-caught fish. Perhaps I just missed that post. I thought it was a dedicated seahorse tank. Just thinking out loud here....but since meds in the past weren't as effective as they should have been, I'm wondering if it's possible the wild caught fish were carriers of a vibrio strain the cb Reidi weren't able to combat once stressed or once temps got too high. I would think the med regime for the known strains of vibrio seahorses can carry would work on any strain, but perhaps that's not the case.
In relation to when the other seahorse first became ill - when was the last fish or any other living thing introduced to the tank? Even amphipods and the like can introduce pathogens to a tank.
There isn't anything to add to the tank to remove any bacteria/pathogens.

HMMM..I had not added anything to that tank after seahorses...except snails..and pods purchased from swf.....an umbrella mushroom, a gorgonian....The tank got warm 1 time...and I immediately bought an a/c unit for the room and the tank has not ever gone above 75 since...usually runs 74....
I did have a Frogspawn in there which I removed (maybe too late) after Bigun got sick....Do you think it was something I did
OMG....I hope not
I will never have another seahorse until I have another tank....I will even do my rockwork differntly....

Hm, well the frogspawn definitely could have started Bigun's problems. Could have been a wound from the coral that developed secondary infection...
I aggree with Tom that she seemed very stunted for her age, so there could definitely have been underlying health problems. Either organ/development problems from something in her past, or parasites preventing adequite nutrition for growth.
FWIW, any of the things that you added could have brought bacteria and parasites in, including the snails, pods, and corals. The pods especially, actually. They are well known for carrying bacteria, including pathogenic Vibrio. Do you know if they were aquacultured?
Do not treat the tank with anything. You could make whatever it is resistant, and you could do damage to your inverts and biofilter. If you feel the need to do something, do more frequent, larger water changes for a while, and keep the temperature lower. Even down to 68*. If any of the other fish show symptoms, then you can remove them and treat them seperately.

OK...Thanks ANN...All I know about the pods are they are the oines that SWF sells....in the bag....I usually buy a bag everytime I order.....Most everything else was already in the tank except the mushrooms and gorgs,
Skinny was always tiny....
I will not ever put a horse in this tank again....IF I ever get (when)lol I get horses again, they will have a new tank.....done soooo differently
Thanks for all your help, and advice.....I'm saddened by the losses, and especially that there is something I may have done wrong to contribute to them.....I will NEVER let that happen again..
Thanks again

Lois, dont beat yourself up. Things happen. Look at me. Take a break, then like they say, if you fall off the horse, get right back on.
You know you love these things as much as I do.

LOL...Yeah I know...BUT I really think if I do this...I do need a different tank......I could move my 16g cichlid tank and put a tank in that spot in my fish room...(planning already) LOL....OK...LET me ask you this....what is the smallest tank that you would recommend for 2 pair max of reidi's....(for the future)
