are you talking about using the a skylight window as supplemental lighting for your tank? if thats your goal i would recommend against it. you will most likely end up with an algae problem.

I have seen a couple TOTM on the other forum that used skylights along with halides looked pretty impressive. Sunlight by itself is not bad just doesn't look the best, color is very yellow in comparison to the Halides and T5's most people run on their reef tanks. Algea blooms cannot start without nutrients light is just an accelerant so sunlight will not cause an algea bloom on its own.

thats true, but sunlight will accelerate the process more so than standard aquarium lighting.

Right and I believe this is because algea along with terrestrial plants grow better under lighting that falls into the red side of the spectrum and the lights we use on our tanks contain very little red.
