Slim overflow..?

Curious if anyone has any ideas about making or buying a slim overflow box - i have a 150 gallon reef tank and currently im using a eshops overlfow box, but its on the end of my tank, because my tank only sits 2 9/10 inches off the wall, and i really want to figure out some other type of overflow so the side of my tank can be empty / open. I REALLY dont want to empty the whole thing, remove all the livestock, and move it off the wall, and the last thing i want to do is drill it, because the drilling makes me a little nervous ( considering how much the tank itself cost me.)
Any ideas?

Easy enough to build an overflow box, but it will still have to be wide enough to accommodate the bulkheads inside......

what would you suggest for building materials? if i do it, i would make it long enough to fit four or five 1'' bulkheads, with the same number of U tubes- I want to be able to pump a lot of water though it.

1/4" acrylic would work just fine.....Not sure about keeping 4-5 U tubes full all the time though.....I tried that years ago and at times they functioned perfectly, but over time 1 would become air locked.....What pump are you considering.....The other issue you have to consider with putting that many bulkheads is they will require space and space between them.....Seems it would be better to possibly go with bigger bulkheads to handle the flow your considering.....
