hello,
I have a question about my 220. It has salt crepe forming VERY slowly at the
base of one side of the tank, just above the trim. My concern is that it will eventualy
get worse and empty my tank!!! I am hoping for suggestions or somebody to tell me
it wont get worse and dont worry about it. LOL
Thanks
Don

My tank has salt creep all over the top edge of the bottom trim, but it isn't from a leak, it is from a drop here, a drop there that runs down the outside of the glass when I splash a bit of water. You know, when you clean your glass and get it sparkling clean, then decide to move the lamp or something and drip saltwater all over the glass you just struggled to clean?
Make sure your creep isn't just the accumulation of random splashes. Hopefully, that is all it is.

It is possible maybe even probable that the water is comming from splashing fish, I do have
some large fish and it is even on the feeding side of the tank.
I do have a full enclosed hood but no canopy. Funny thing is is i dont remember them
making a mess prefeeding or during feeding. I usualy keep the glass spotless and dont
remember having to wipe the glass or seeing any crepe drips you usualy found when the
water evaporates. Both you two gave me what i wanted to hear no worries!! LOL.
I guess it must be uncommon for a leak to start at the top of the trim piece, but i am
wiping the crepe away every day to see if it continues to form, i am hoping it is from
splashing though.Really dont need a blowout and flooded basement!
Thanks

Hi,
I thought I had a leak once, salt-creep just like you discribe. I went and purchased a new tank only to discover that the HOB skimmer made a little ripple of water along the top rim and towards the back on the other side it would just barely overflow and accumulate at the top of the bottom rim. So also check your equipment to make sure nothing is causing a little overflow drip.
