Sluffing...

I bought a beautiful finger leather that has been in my tank since Saturday. It was closed up for the first couple of days but today... WOW! He's showing his polyps and is starting to stand straight up and fan out. However, there is what looks like dead skin hanging off of it. My question...
Is this typical? I read that corals tend to release a protective mucus to protect themselves and will shed it when it starts to open up and get comfortable.
Just making sure... is this the case?

Here's a shot of the toadstool with the finger...

Final...a couple of my hard corals:

shedding is usually a white or cream color no? its algae i think. just ummm peel it off. maybe a powerhead would blow it off. qwhen the polyps are fully opened algae wont grow on it.
