Small sized Mushroom?

Can anyone tell me what species if any will only grow at about 1 or 2 inches in diameter, I would really like to add some color with mushrooms but I have seen that they can get quite large!!!

i've got some purple, red, and some green fuzzy ones that are pretty big (2-3 in) JMO-but wiht the shrooms that i have, it seems that they get bigger if you don't blast them with a ton of light, but JMO like i said.

I've found the opposite. the more light they bigger they get because there's enough light to sustain a large mushroom, if i move them to the edge of the tank that doesn't get as much strong light they start splitting. I think it's really hit or miss. In one tank a shroom will make out at 2inch before splitting and in another it'll get 10 inches.

This has been my experience as well with some kinds of mushrooms. The ones that have more direct light are smaller while the ones in the shaded areas are bigger. I just always assumed that they expanded to provide more surface area to absorb light.

so potentially it could go like this...
more light = smaller size more frequent split...
less light = bigger size

I think the reason you see smaller mushroom in stronger light is they multiply faster.I have mine under 250w MH and they climb the wall to the MH and drop little shrooms all over my tank.I would say it is one of the worst thing I have put in my tank rite next to star polyps.They multiply faster than I can get rid of them.

questions then... if I keep them isolated in a rock about an inch appart from the rest of the rock work... will they jump??? will they continue to spread onto the substrate? or will they crowd the rock then stop?? I know that is a lot questions but there are some that I really like but I dont want a tooooo many in my tank...

you'll probably want to keep more like 3 inches of sand around your mushroom island and if they drop a baby on the sand then pick it up glue it to a small piece of rock and sell it.
