I've been watching this guy grown from the size of a pin head for about 6 months. Finally got in a place where a picture would turn out. Any ideas what it is? Harmfull in anyway?
It looks like a whelk to me as well, but I don't know what kind. And it should be noted that most whelks are predators, and it may turn on other inhabitance as it gets bigger. Hope he's not a bad guy, but until you get a positive ID, I would keep a close eye on him.
