Snail question

So yesterday I was installing a new powerhead in my tank and I noticed one of my larger mexican turbos on his back with sand all over the top of him. It kinda looked like a piece of broccoli sticking up out of the shell. I figured it was dead or something but I left it and 30 minutes later it was back to normal. It let go of the sand (which now sits at the bottom of the tank and is the shape and size of a quarter). Anyone ever heard of behavior like this?

They fall over sometimes in the sand because they are so heavy and the sand cannot support them.. They eventually right themselves and get off the sand. it happens to all my snails. If they stay upside down too long, crabs will eat them if you have them. Just pick them up and put them on a rock or by the glass. No worries.
