Snails and crabs

This sounds kind of silly... but what exactly do snails and crabs eat? We want to add some snails and crabs, but we dont have much of anything growing but a little bit of hair algae, some brown algae and live rock. Will they have enough to live off of?

They eat algae, diatoms, fish waste, wasted food, decomposing matter, and other various debris in LR and on the sandbed.
Don't worry about them starving, as long as you don't get too many. Most of the time they will survive off of the waste food and the waste. The only reasons I've had losses in my cleanup crew is homicide.
