snails and crabs

i have a 50g reef tank, how many snails and crabs should i keep in my tank. and what types work the best.

IMO, it depends on your nutrient load. If you plan on having a lot of fish, odds are you will have high phosphates in your water, which will fuel algae growth. In that case, I would up the rate to 1 medium austrea sized snail per 1-2 gallons. If you get bigger snails, they consume more, so you could get less.
I have no opinion about the crabs.

i have a 75 gal w/4 trochus snails, a couple cap and peppermint snails and 1 alge blenny they keep the tank clean. i would go with snails or crabs not both because some hermit crabs have a habit of eating snails. instead of hermits i went with nassarious snails they are scavageners and not alge eaters any food that is left on the bottom they go right after it thats only IMO :)
