Snails and Hermits

Hey everyone, i have a question about controlling my algae on my glass. I have about 10 blue leg hermits and about 5 scarlets in my 85 gal. and just wanted to know if their would be much of a problem if i added some astrea snails or mexican turbos to the mix. Heard that the hermits can be a lil mean in trying to take the snails' shells.

Hey,
There are many varieties of clown fish and many varieties of anemones. Only certain pairings work. An earlier reply made a good point about tank raised clowns too. They don't know they are supposed be in a relationship with an anemone, even if it is the natural host. Some clowns will treat other things in your reef as a host even though it's not an anemone. I have one that loves to hang in a patch of Star polyps.

Doh!
Don't know how the earlier message got tacked on to this one. Sorry.
Anyway, I would add at least 40 snails to your tank. As far as the hermits, make sure you put a selection of new and larger sized shells in the tank and the hermits will move into those rather than attack a snail. Not saying it wont happen, but it's less likely. (You can buy a bag of shells at a hobby shop for a couple of bucks. I boiled mine and then rinsed them in salt water before adding them to the tank.)

Hermits are aggressive when it comes to new shells. I have 5 red legs and 5 blue legs and will not any more due to there killing smaller turbo's and taking there shells. I have all kinds of snails in my tank. Astreas are good as wellas turbos and Mexicans. :) CLICK HERE TO SEE MY REEF :)
