snails are disappearing from shells

i have found 4 snail shells now with no life inside.. Only guess is the hermit crabs are eating them is this possible?? Will the hermits get the snails?? There is also emerald crabs in the tank but never see them around. Other snails seem to be doing fine.

Snails decompose very quickly. If they die, you shold see an empty shell in a week, or thre abouts.
My hermit crabs loved to eat the dead snails, and had a great time chasing baby snails. One of the hermits took one of the snail shells. (the fat s.o.b).

I had found a small clam in some LR I bought & put it in my tank. It did real well but the crabs were after it! My big crab had tried to pry it open but I caught him in time & saved the clam
the big crab never went after it again. 2 days later the little crab got the clam & is now fatter to prove it, he's lucky I didn't make soup out of him

Sounds like you got some hungry crabs there!
