Snails are dying

Recently I had 3 snails and 2 emerald crabs die without a clear cause.
Chemistry is normal, and I don’t think fish are eating them. One of them I found dead inside its shell. The others stank when I pulled them from the water.
The only change that I made was salt. By mistake, I switched from Instant Ocean Reef Crystals to plain Instant Ocean Salt.
All my other livestock is healthy. Corals are doing great.
I replaced the dead snails, and one of the new ones died within a week. Shell was empty.
Any ideas about how to solve this?

Check your salinity and Ph as snail can not tolerated much of a deviation from the norm. Oh yea what type of snail were they?

Have you ever tested for copper and do you have any brass fittings?
Definitely if you can post specific parameters, esp pH, alk, Calcium and specific gravity. How did you acclimate these?

I've been doing some reading of past posts about snails dying. Some people suggested it could be high concentration of iron. Maybe from the water source, or live rock manufactoring. Some rusty tool tip embedded in the rock. There could be high alkaloid. I think you hafto buy a special kit for that. Snails may not have enough food. I throw in a little chopped frozen chicken in the mornings. My hermits, and snails will both eat. The snails are like blood hounds. The hermits don't attack my snails aggressively.
Here is a interesting link from a 2007 thread. Someone was using Well Water instead of DI, RO.

I have found that ur standard Turbo snails do better in cool water than warm..what is ur temp. Changing salts I dont think has anything to do with them dieing off...Salinity change tho could also contribute.
