What types of snails are they? I had turbos and if they get on their back, they rely on you to save them. What type of fish are in your tank? My turbos were always flipped over by my humma humma trigger. He would come along and blow water under them and flip them over. After a few time, I started getting empty shells. I learned the hardway the you can't keep snails with triggers.
Anyway, my guess is that one of your fish is doing it.

Hey,
My snails will take a break once in a while and not move for hours at a time so don't sweat that. As far as them flipping over, mine did that for about the first week or so in the tank, but now I've never seen one flip over in several months. My hermits get all excited when I feed the fish and seen some of them take a header off the lr, but not my snails.
