Used aquariums and used equipment have some challenges. Here’s a list of a few things to look for when dealing with used aquariums and equipment.
[list type=decimal]
[*]
Ask the owner why they are selling it. If they say it leaks… walk away.
[*]
Look for any signs of leakage, drips or wetness where it shouldn’t be.
[*]
Look at the silicone edges of the aquarium to see if they are marred, scarred, or abused.
[*]
Look at the electrical outlets for signs of excess voltage leaks like burn marks etc.
[*]
Look for corrosion on electrical equipment.
[*]
Look for signs of small leaks around equipment that will show some salt creep.
[*]
Look at the condition of the livestock and see if they are healthy.
Ask about how old the light bulbs are and ask to see the different lighting variations.
Ask how old the tank is. If it’s more than 10 years old,… pass.
Ask what all comes with the tank including any maintenance equipment, supplements and food that you can use.
Look inside the stand and outside the stand for any water damage, mold, mildew, or warpage of the stand. Check its integrity.
Know your budget. Do not spend more than your budget.
Look for heavily modified equipment and ask questions about it.
Ask if the price includes delivery

This is just a general guideline that should help you in making your decision to purchase an old aquarium setup.
