Milk snakes are an easier species to keep. Though there should never be kept with another snake as they will eat there roomate if smaller. They are a very beautiful snake. The hondurans get pretty good sized, I had a big male that was close to six foot. Color phases anymore vary greatly. The ones I can think of the top of my head are tangrine, melanistic (all black), hypomelanistic (no black pigment, high dollar animal) and of course albino but they are also a high dollar animal.
They need to be kept in a very secure cage as these guys and kingsnakes are probably the best escape artist there are. They can be a real challenge to find after they escape. Temp requirements 78 to 82 degrees. Feeding them, well with a milk snake ... they can eat you out of house and home !! LOL they are an eating machine. Just make sure you feed them out of there cage, like a feeding box or something like that(a plastic shoe box,with small holes for air and ventilation). Milks can develop quite a nasty feeding reaction. For substrate use aspen, they can burrow into it and it gives them a sense of security. Also it is easy to clean and easy to replace. Don't use pine or cedar , not good for the animal.
My last piece of advice for getting a milk snake from a show is becareful. Look at the animal and make sure it is lively and not listless. I personally would not get a baby, go for a yearling or a little older. Baby milks can be a real challenge to feed sometimes as they are so small and you have to find very small pinks. The biggest differance is that milks go as far as south america and kings go to canada. There are some really good looking king snakes out there as well.
