I went out of town for 2 days and my sister was on tank duty. For some reason my foam in my overflow box clogged up faster than normal and slowed the return of the water into my sump. She freaked out and throttled back my ball valve almost all the way. When I came back there were bubbles attached to the sides of my glass and powerheads. Everywhere were strands of clear "snot" like things swaying in the current . I've had this problem before in my U-tube where it looks like sourkraut. All tests checked out with zero phosphates and less than 5 nitrates. What is this stuff? Has to be some type of algae but I dunno?

I get this sometimes when I stir up the tank and blow off the LR. I was told it was my corals throwing off a slime coat sort of like a defense mechanism so they dont get all that crap on them. Dont know for sure but thats what I was told..

I had the same thing when I went on vacation 2 months ago and the OUTLET of my FUGE got clogged with some chaeto and caused overflow of my fuge and my nice neighbor put in TAP water to try to get the water level up. Some kind of seepage that went away after about 3 days.. SPIT or SNOT like strings,, no?

I've seen it in the past growing like velvet on my back wall and it slowly went away. All params in check including alk, cal, and mag. It's driving me nuts and now it is all over the back of my rocks.
Spit/snot strings are perfect description. I'm thinking about re-scaping soon to give some better flow around the back. I dunno it sounds like a pain. Might be easier to upgrade.
