I've never seen mine poop. Or any of my fish for that matter. When they poop, it breaks up in the water (Im assuming) and settles down in your sand or live rock where your bacteria break it down. It will eat any sort of meat you stick in front of his face. DONT just throw food in the water, it wont find it. theyre blind and stupid as hell. you have to literally shove the food in its face. I dunno how they survive in the wild.

Yet another comment from left field King??? Eels are not blind. They have poor sight. They CAN find food when they are hungary. If you have ever seen one in the wild they will chase food. You dont want to throw food in the water because it will teach the eel to hunt for the food and if you have other fish in the tank, they will be mistaken prey.
If you spot feed the eel, it will become behavior to eat when you place the food in.
As far as surviving in the wild, these animals are spectacular. They are hunters by nature and have blazing speed. They are smart despite your "supid as hell" comment. You can teach these things to eat out of your hand and to beg for food and will recognize the owner over all other people.
As for poop...HAHAHA...just like your water not evaporating, the food must be expelled. Some fish have a dust-like waste and other have large hard waste.
Before you say something and make certian comments to those that are looking for real advise take a step back and think.

Sorry to snake your thread BigWiz.
As for your SFE and it's tank mates you need to be careful. You have what I would consider a small environment for the eel (which will need to be upgraded to a larger tank soon as the SFE will get to 30" and will be as fat as your wrist.) These guys like to eat anything meaty. I would suggest feeding them with a feeding stick of some kind...place it in front of them and spot feed them. this will teach them not to swim after the food, and will allow you a greater chance of keeping other fish with them.
In a 55 gallon tank, you will want some movement. I would suggest a school of chromis (6) and maybe a couple of dwarf angels (lemmon peel, bi-color, or potters).
Good luck with the new tank...remember to KEEP THE LID SECURE! The eels like to jump out and are very strong.
