Snowflakes

Ok, I just got a tiny little snowflake(about 6-8 inches and about as big around as a pencil). I have done my research on them but still have a few questions. One, what do they like to eat besides krill, brine, squid, and vhp? I will not feed live because the eel would not have a chance of getting it, believe me. Also, should I put some PVC pipe in? He currently hides out under my mountain of live rock where no other fish can reach him. Also, how fast do snowflakes usually grow and at what size do they max out in captivity?

You can also feed silverslides, thats what mine eats. You can add a pvc pipe if you like, it's your choice.Snowflake eels grow over 3 feet in the wild, but seldom over 2 feet in captivity

mine eats krill, brine, squid, clam, shrimp, and silversides right now. i would add pvc as it helps keep the eel at the bottom of the tank. my snowflake is a little over 2 feet right now. the largest i have seen in captivity was 3+ feet. bo

I agree with all the above with regards to what they feed their eels, that is a good balance. I would highly recommend a pvc pipe mine realy likes his and he has not tryed to get out of the tank yet. Good luck

i just feed mine frozed brine shrimp...is there a reason why you are tring to find alternate foods???
not that i am recomending that you feed live foods but why won't he get it if you do? what other fish are with it??
if you have other fish (or strong current that breaks up the brine shrimp cubes)i would suggest a eel feeder. they are available at most lfs and keep other fish from getting to it as well as keeping the food in one spot that is easier for the eel to find (since they don't see too well)...
