so i got this 100lb bag of silica sand

I read in a post it would work if mixed in with live sand. i also read it would kill. can i use silica sand if mixed with live sand?

most ppls wont use silica sand at all in a fishtank.... they use argonite sand

the agronite i bought looks dark when wet. it is not bright like crushed coral. makes the bottom look muddy.

I have silica sand in my 29 with a top coat of live sand. Havent had any problems, its been up since November 2003

Silica sand isn't really toxic, it just usually has larger granules. If you have too large of sand, your sand-sifting critters wont be able to clean your sand.
FYI, if you have a glass aquarium, it will give off more silica than any amount of sand in your tank.
