Democratic protests and uprisings against dictatorship regimes in the middle east. For cen turies this has never occurred...now we have atleast 6 countries going through this at once. So what brought it about?

I am sure Iraq has a minor influence but I think people are just fed up and the dominos are starting to fall

I think there may be some truth to the theory that the internet social networks played a role.
Now that people can "virtually" see first hand that life can be better in a more free society, they yearn for it.
The internet has offered free flow of ideas and ideals that never could have happened before.

Internet has been around for half the span of some of these dictators..........has to be more to it.....I thin k seeing the statues of saddaam torn down on live tv...contributed...sadaam was the longest reigning dictator in the middle east....seeing him taken down had to have some effect I think.

Well, yeah, I would have to agree, but your opening question asked why after centuries
this happens now.
Internet, TV, open world wide exchange of ideas is a very recent thing.

People are realizing that being free thinking is better than brainwashed. I think the use of cell phones is playing a huge role, well. In many of the countries, the younger generations (let's say 18-30) makes up a good portion of the population. This portion of the population is struggling due to economic conditions and not being able to find a job. They are desperate FOR change and have nothing to lose by standing up for what they believe in.

Or are they so desperate they just want any sort of change...remember change is not a policy or philosophy that necessarily constitutes better...it just means different.
