Sohol Tang Behavior

I have had a Sohol Tang for about a year. He sometimes rubs against the CC . There are no visible signs of ich and he has done this since day one. All other fish in the tank are quite healthy and show no visible signs of disease. The Sohol is quite colorful and eats like a pig. I s this normal behavior? I know rubbing is a sign of parasites, but this guy has done this for one year. Also, he is probably one of the most colorful Sohol Tangs I have ever seen. I only ask because I am giving him to a friend, as he is getting too big for my tank. HE told me he would just put him in his display tank and does not think the fish has ich. I suggested QT. Is the rubbing a normal behavior for Sohol Tangs?

I had a sohol years ago in a different set up that exhibited the same type of behavior. It could be that your tank has too many copepods hatching and attaching to your tang. They do not do any harm except for irritating your fish. If it continues the fishes immune system could be weakened. If this is your problem you can run a small micron filter to remove some of them or get something like a mandarin that feeds on them.

Mine does the same thing... always has. It seems quite healthy. Interesting to see others with the same experience.

I dunno i have done some reasearch into why sohals do the "rubbing" thing...... the conclusions that i have found is that when the p.h swings from night to day is when mine does it i found or when the p.h isnt stable....... just my 2 cents.

He was getting pretty mean as he was growing along with the others. When I moved him to he seemed to settle down. As you can see by the date on the post it has been a few years. No real problems since then with aggression.
