Hi guys, I need a little advice...I have a 75 gallon tank. Right now I only have one snowflake eel in it. He's about 18 inchs long. I'd really like to add another eel or two but I'm not sure about my tank size. Can I have 2 or 3 eels in a 75? The ones I really like are the leopard , the black ribbon, the zebra, and the tesselata. Can any of these go with the snowflake?

I don't know but I love the zebra. If my top was completely sealed I would get a zebra eel. A guy was trying to sell me his tesseleta which was almost 4 ft and he told me he bit his hand and he had a serious wound and that it ate his $500 polleni grouper.

Yeah, Tessy's get huge and horribly aggressive, Ribbon Eels have horrible survival records, like less than 5% in captivity....I would stick with Zebra, or Chainlink, or Goldentail if you can find one.

Okay, so no black ribbon and no tesselata. I really like the zebras. So what about my snowflake, a zebra, and a fish or two? Maybe a puffer?

might I suggest some thing ther is a book called "A pocket expert guide to Marine Fishes" it has almost ever fish that you can keep in a tank. plus how big they get, minimum aquarium size, foods & feeding, how hard they are to care for, wether their reef safe and a little blurb about them.
you should be able to get it at your lfs.
this is the greatest book for any salt water aquartist

don't put 2 eels togther the first will rip the other to shred

This is not true, most eels get along fine with each other as long as they have appropriate space.

id go with the leapord eel or the chainlink eel (aslong as there is enouph rockwork in the tank you should be fine). the tessaletta will get way to big for a 75 and will soon devour anything you put in it. any of the ribbon eels do not do well in captivityunless supreme water quality and even then they sometimes they just die or stop eating for no reason. IMO the zebra eel isn't very attractive, but otherwise a great eel.

ps i wouldnt put more than 2-3 eels in a 75 depending on what ones you choose.

Not sure where you saw or read this, but I can tell you from experience and from a number of people on this site alone that have more than 3 eels together and they are just fine.

I love zebra eels!!! They are beautiful eels.
If you want to go all out get a yellow canary eel (banana moray eel) costly but beautiful eel.

Okay.. I think I'm gonna go with a zebra and a leopard. Does it matter what order I add them to the tank? Or what size they need to be??
My snowflake is about 18", maybe a little more. I can order a leopard from SWF that is 12-18". And I found a zebra and can get one that is 12-16" or 16-24". Any advise there???
Also...I found Seachem Meridian Gray Coast Substrate at my lfs. I like the look of it and I'm considering making a switch to this before I add anything to the tank. Good idea or bad????

As far as the substrate, the SF Eel is the only thing in there? Is the substrate "live"? If so IMO you would be okay with a total substrate change.
Not trying to turn you, but you sure you want a Leopard Eel? I can't say I know much about them, but they remind me more of a snake than an Eel....I don't know, I guess it's cool to have something different though. To answer your question, I would do the Zebra first, and make sure everyone is happy and healthy, then proceed.

Yea, I like the leopard eel. My only concern is that it seems to be more aggressive than the snowflake and the zebra...I don't want it to pick on its tankmates.
