Some help please.

Hello everyone, I'm fairly new to the hobby and have a lot of questions. I'll stick to one or two at a time. I've had a 75 gal with lr, ls, cleanup crew and 6 fish. It's been up for almost 6 months and looks beautiful. I bought the whole setup from an experienced hobbiest and he said my plans will work perfectly.
However, after reading a lot, I am wondering what the long term results will be.I have an eheim w/d and a smaller eheim cannister filter, uv sterilizer, powerhead and only 40 watt NO 50/50 bulb. As you'd imagine the nitrates are high, about 40. But it looks beautiful and the fish seem to be thriving. So am I in for trouble?
Related to this, I have come across a great deal for a 60gal with vho lighting, a protein skimmer, cannister filter and some other extras. Seeing this, I've thought about moving my combination tank into the new one with the better lighting and changing my current 75g into a FO tank. If I do this, which filters or equipment should I use on each tank?

Seeing as you are new to the hobby I would wait until your present tank is running correctly before venturing into two tanks. 40 ppm nitrates is not good for anything. Fish can and do live in 40 and higher but sooner or later it will catch up through disease, infection, or parasites. I also would invest in better lighting for your present tank. How deep is your sand bed? Is it sand? How much live rock do you have? What fish are in your tank? A wet/dry + canister= high nitrates.

I have about 4 inches of live sand and about 40 lbs of live rock, both taken from a mature tank. The wet/dry was also running that tank. The initial cycle only took about 7 days. I bought the market leader cleanup crew package from this website and I have a 9 inch goby that was also taken from the original tank, 1.5in blue damsel, 1in humbug damsel, 2in flame anthio, 3.5in tomato clown with his bubble tip anenome and a 1.5in royal gramma. The clown basically rules the tank. When he gets overly aggressive the goby will scare him a little and the tank calms down.

I would loose the canister filter,or remove the filter from it and use it as a circulation pump for now...About that other setup,BUY IT NOW but set it up later.Anytime I run across a good deal on something I buy it then figure out what to do with it later....Better yet,can you put the lights from this other tank over the one you now have??? That anemone will need better lighting to survive..Personally,,I would get the bigger tank and switch them like you said...

Thanks for the help guys. I'm going to buy it tomorrow, but I have to measure the tank. It's 60gal, but I don't think it's 48in long and it's built into the custom hood. So I'll see, but the deal is too good to pass up.
