alrite i was thinking about getting the 55 but had no room for it so i got the 24 gallon nano cube. i brought it home and the next day i set it up. got water, sand, and live rock in. and i turned on the lights to find that one of them doesnt work. im pretty sure that the female and male plugs are in right and together. what is the problem? and i also smell burning in the light box thing. whats going on with my tank. i dont want to take apart everything and bring it back to the fish store and bring another one home. i got my desired look and now its just the light. anyone else facing this problem? someone please help. thanks in advance

Try contacting JBJ directly. Tell them you situation and see what they suggest. As long as you haven't modded the cube they should be willing to replace whatever is wrong. Check to see if the bulb is any good. Take the one that works out and put it in place of the other. If it works you have a bad bulb, if not there is something else. If you smell smoke coming out of the ballast it may also be bad. If you have a bad hood see if the LFS you bought it from will exchange hoods only and they can deal with JBJ.
Hope this helps,
Bob

jacksdad's right ..................
if your lfs won't help you - contact jbj direct - phone # is in your instructions -" Manny" is one of the customer support people there and he's an ace. i had a cooling fan motor problem and even though i had modified the wiring by installing a different fan (radio shack ) arghhhhhh ........he not only was very helpful giving me the specs of the stock fan so i could get an emergency one local - but also shipped another new fan to me the same day i called at no charge other than a modest shipping charge.
their good people there and want to help ..................just be honest with them and don't try and get over on them.
oh - by the way ...............i found most of my heating problem i was having in my tank was not from the lights - but the maxi 900 pump guys ............
good luck feixjai ...................

hot883, thanks for the concern - and i apologise for hijacking the thread from feixja guys ........
heat problem ended up being a combination of one failing cooling fan motor ( replaced no charge ) from j.b.j. and some increased heat generated from the maxi jet 900 conversion i did to my tank.
i solved the problem by - replacing the cooling fan ...of course ...lol
and cutting a 2 inch hole in the splash shield directly in front of each cooling fan motor with a hole saw. this gave me direct release of trapped surface heat generated by the lights and pump motor - man .....................what a difference . one can now actually feel the fans work also.
j.b.j. tells me one of the heat problems being reported was due to people filling their tanks above the bottom of the moulded black rim - thus causing heat to be trapped between the water surface and splash shield - thus causing direct heat transfer to the water.
really worked great for me .
before .........tank temp 83.8 ..........ambient temp 76
now .............tank temp 80.2 ..........ambient temp 76
good luck ya'll
