So I did some tank maintenance last night and when I woke up this morning to go to work I took a peak. To my horror the water was bad, bad cloudy and all my frogspawns have died, my montipora died and is now white, snails are dead, and zoas, rics, and shrooms do not look happy. My clam is ok for now and GSP seem to be comming out some. I am so upset, I dont understand why my tank of 6 years crashed!! I did a water check when I got home from work and ammonia, trite, trate are all 0 and ph is 8.2, temp 79, salinitiy 1.025, alk is 3.5 and cal 320. What the heck could have happened??????
I have no fish just corals so now I am contemplating giving up. I thought about salvaging what I could and starting a nano and let that be my hobby. This sucks!! Any ideas as to what could have happened?

Best starting point is the maintenance. Otherwise, did you have any anemones or cucumbers that could have gotten caught up in a powerhead?

Well it was over due really. I had scrapped Coraline of the side glass and a little off front glass. My rocks were covered in brown matt algae so I cleaned it off with a toothbrush. I added a new powerhead, and cleaned the filter pads and filter housing with fresh R/O. I did not do a water change but I got out the brown algae that I could when I pulled it off the rocks. Other than that, that was it. I got bad lazy the past 2 months because of some other issues but parms are all in check. The only thing I can think of is I stirred the rock around enough to make something I cant/dont test for shoot up. The room the tank is in now has a saltwater smell to it. It never has before. Other than algae the day before everything was fine!! I mean I had two frogspawns the size of softballs and they are gone
! Nope anemone or cucumbers either

how big is the tank? You could have done too much at one time?
. Maybe stirred up something you shouldnt have?

did you possibly wash the toothbrush with something last time it was used? do you have any of the RO water that you used to rinse everything left to test that? Did you rinse off the new powerhead before you put it in?
