Something strange is happening!

I've got a 75 gallon tank most of it is custom designed and built. this tank is 5 years old recently the skimmer decided to retire on me so i started looking for a replacement. In the meantime I've noticed that my algae has receded, my water is clearer, and my corals are noticeably healthier! can anyone try to explain this to me. I've always been told that you should have one.
Thank you for your time Dan

Corals feed on what skimmer remove. So the corals may be getting something to eat for a change. As to why the water seems clearer and the algae is gone...maybe the skimmer was hoarding something bad, the way canister filters do when they haven’t been maintained properly...but I’m just guessing
